Wear your Art on Your Sleeve: goodie2shoes Welcomes Frankie Slaughter
Walking into goodie2shoes right now is like walking into another world – fabrics, ornaments, buttons, and beads from around the globe have come together in the form 0f one-of-a-kind jackets, and goodie2shoes looks like the epicenter of a colorful cultural explosion.
Who is behind this artistic invasion of colors, patterns, and textures, you ask? Why, Frankie Slaughter of course! One of goodie2shoes favorite designers, Frankie and her jackets have once again landed in goodie2shoes, transforming the store into a wild landscape sprung from Frankie’s imagination.
Wearing one of her own creations, Frankie simply oozes creativity and confidence. And her inspirations and technique make her much more of an artist than a clothing designer; her jackets double as functional outerwear and unique works of art. “It’s like working on a painting,” she says. “All of my jackets start as piles. I look at the pile of fabrics and embellishments and say ‘That is a jacket!’”
So what does she think about when she starts putting together all of those bits and pieces? ”There are really no guidelines,” she says. “I’ll look at what I have, think of what silhouettes have been well received and go from there.” But Frankie also designs with her clients in mind. ”I’ll think about where we’re going. We have a trunk show in Key Largo, and I’ll bring lighter weight fabrics like linens. But with the changing weather here in Jackson we have fabric in every weight!”
As for the embellishments on the jackets, Frankie collects pieces from her many travels. ”At a show in Tuscon I sourced belts and beads from Africa, as well as South Western and Native American pieces. It’s just a big medley of things I can embellish with, and so designing is about what I have in front of me. ” So for Frankie, it’s not about what’s hot right now. “I’m not directly swayed by trends,” she says. “But if I’m seeing eggplant everywhere I might want to bring it into one of my jackets because it’s such a rich and yummy color.”
We love Frankie and her beautiful jackets and are so happy to have her back in Jackson Hole. We hope you’ll stop by the store to meet Frankie in person and try on one of her inspired works of art!
